Q&A

Q.   DO I NEED AN APPOINTMENT?

A.   Pregnancy Care Center welcomes both walk-ins and appointments for pregnancy testing.  Walk-ins are seen on a “first come, first served basis” and those with appointments are seen first at their scheduled time.   Ultrasound examinations are by appointment only for clients who have a medical verification of pregnancy and are established as clients of Pregnancy Care Center.

Q.   WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO MY APPOINTMENT?

A.   Pregnancy Care Center asks that you bring a photo ID (any identification with a picture and your name on it — school ID, Driver’s License, etc.) with you to your appointment.  This picture is solely for identification purposes only and will remain in your file.  If you do not have a photo ID, we can take one when you arrive and have you complete an additional identification form.

Q.   IS THERE A COST? or WHAT IF I DON’T HAVE INSURANCE?

A.   All of Pregnancy Care Center’s services are 100% free.  All services are “pre-paid” by donors in the community.  We do not bill insurances or medi-cal.

Q.   WILL MY VISIT BE CONFIDENTIAL?

A.   Pregnancy Care Center  has a very strict confidentiality policy. We will not tell anyone about your visit, share your information, or contact you without your permission to do so.  We are here to help you!

The only exceptions to confidentiality include where we are required by state law to report knowledge of a client who is: suicidal or homicidal, abusing a minor, a victim of statutory rape or sexual assault, a minor age 13 or under reporting sexual activity, or a victim reporting domestic violence.

Q.   WHY DO I NEED TO HAVE MISSED A PERIOD?

A.   Pregnancy Care Center asks that you be 30 days from the first day of your last period before you come in for a pregnancy test. This is to insure that you have an accurate pregnancy test result.  The hormone hCG is detected for a positive result.  The test we use is 99% accurate on the first day of the missed period.

Q.   CAN I GET BIRTH CONTROL?

A.   Pregnancy Care Center does not prescribe or refer for birth control.  We recommend for our clients to be established with a primary care doctor who can help determine the right birth control method for them and assess their overall healthcare needs.

Q.   CAN I GET EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTIVES?

A.   We can provide you with information regarding emergency contraceptives.  Are you sure you aren’t pregnant already? When did you last have sex? These are important questions to answer prior to taking Plan B.  Make an appointment to talk to an advocate.  Pregnancy Care Center does not provide or refer for Emergency Contraceptives.

Q.  CAN ANYONE MAKE ME HAVE AN ABORTION?

A.   No. It is against the law for anyone to force you to have an abortion.  Not even your parents, your husband, or boyfriend can make you have an abortion if you don’t want to.  This is true even if you are under 18 and living in your parent’s home.  We are here to support you.  We can also help you talk about your pregnancy with the people closest to you that may be pressuring you.
